If you’ve spent much time at Glen Waverley, chances are you’ve run into Chanchal. He’s out on the greens almost every day, and our staff absolutely love seeing him walk through the door. It’s rare to find someone who universally brightens everyone's day, but Chanchal is exactly that kind of guy!

For Chanchal, golf is far more than just a game, and it certainly isn't about stressing over a scorecard. Instead, it’s a daily routine that works wonders for both his physical and mental wellbeing. Getting out in the fresh air and staying active keeps him healthy, but the true value of the game lies in the social side.

"For me, golf isn't about the perfect swing or the final score," Chanchal explains. "It’s my way to stay moving and get some fresh air, but most importantly, it’s about the people. The physical exercise is great, but it's the human connection and being part of this community that really keeps me coming back every single day."

Stepping onto the golf course for the first time can feel a bit intimidating, but Chanchal has some fantastic, encouraging advice for any men just starting their golf journey at Glen Waverley or Oakleigh Golf Course.

His top tips for newcomers are simple:

  • Don't sweat the small stuff: Try not to worry about bad shots or what the scorecard says.
  • Focus on the experience: Use golf as the perfect excuse to get outside, spend quality time with friends, and simply enjoy the walk.
  • Embrace the community: Be patient with yourself, have a good laugh, and soak in the welcoming vibe of the Monash community.

Next time you see Chanchal out on the fairways, be sure to give him a wave and say hello!
